Duhven is delivered home safely.
Max joins the rest of the party in the panic room at the start of their long rest. The party catch him up on the event he missed and then they rest. Duhven’s frustrating personality shines through as they share their space. After the rest, the party decide to return to the room with rats before looking back into the earth elemental’s room. Duhven insists on remaining in the panic room.
The combat with the rats is successful, though a rat swarm joins the giant rats. After the rats are killed, the party find that the arcane supplies were partially eaten by the rats (leading to their unusual size). The party decides that their resources are too drained to attack the earth elemental and retrieve Duhven. On the way out, the Duhven (after direct reminders) gathers the arcane supplies he was sent for and Jhera acquires some tinkering supplies from the first door.
Which leads to the next chapter…
When the part arrives at Merriss’s shop, they find a dwarf sitting near the door. The dwarf recognizes Duhven and Jhera and says he has business with them but offers to wait outside; the party invites him inside. Duhven dumps his possessions in the middle of the room and disappears into the back. Imp slowly picks up after him and gives the party their compensation. Dex recognizes Jhera from when Jhera delivered the tome to the engineers. The dwarf introduces himself as Dex and says that he is desperate for the help.
Dex was in charge of safe guarding his mentor’s crown; it was a test of Dex’s engineering skills to create a set of mechanisms to protect the object. The crown was in Dex’s care for five years now. However, a couple nights ago, Dex was approached by a deep gnome wizard. Dex doesn’t remember many details, but several hours later he remembers handing the crown to the wizard. Now he needs to get the crown back before it is missed otherwise he fears his career as a bridge engineer is over.
Dex draws a sketch of the crown. The only symbol on the crown matches the King’s symbol which appears on a King’s Chalice. Dex offers the party 300gp upfront and 200gp if they manage to retrieve the crown. He also wants to accompany the party. The party agree.
Dex takes the party to an entrance to the Dwarven Undercity. They head to the outskirts and Dex takes them in the direction he vaguely remembers. Shortly after exploring, the party finds a strange set of panthers.
